Schecter: A Brief History

schecter guitars

Initially, the Schecter was established as a repair shop and manufacturer of custom replacement guitar parts for Fender and Gibson models. It wasn’t until 1979 that Schecter offered its own fully assembled electric guitars.

Schecter is renowned for producing high-quality electric guitars and basses, particularly favored by musicians in the hard rock and metal genres.

The company’s product line has expanded over the years to include a wide range of models, from entry-level instruments to custom shop and signature series guitars.

Manufacturing

While Schecter was initially associated with American-made custom instruments, the company has since diversified its manufacturing processes.

Today, Schecter offers both USA-made custom models and mass-produced guitars manufactured in South Korea, with some lower-end models produced in Indonesia and China.

The brand maintains a reputation for quality across its range, with even its more affordable instruments receiving praise for their craftsmanship and playability.

Relationship with Fender

Contrary to some misconceptions, Schecter is not a subsidiary of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.

Schecter operates as an independent company, although it has had interactions with Fender in the past, particularly in its early years when Schecter supplied parts for Fender guitars.

Notable Artists

Nick Johnston PT 2022

Schecter guitars are used by a variety of notable musicians across different music genres, though they are most prominently featured in the rock and metal scenes.

Artists such as Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold, Dan Donegan of Disturbed, and Jeff Loomis, formerly of Nevermore and now with Arch Enemy, are among the high-profile guitarists who have endorsed Schecter and have signature models available.
