If you want a proper do-it-all guitar, there really isnโ€™t a better style of electric guitar on the market than the humble Telecaster.

Lauded by many as the ultimate electric guitar, Fenderโ€™s Telecaster is still as popular today as it was 70 years ago, when it first hit the market, demonstrating the sheer, total genius of its creator, Leo Fender, who back in the early-1950s when the Tele first launched was laughed at for designing a guitar that looked like a paddle.

Well, Olโ€™ Leo had the last laugh, earning himself tens of millions of dollars from his iconic design which, in the space of just a few short years, went on to become one of the fastest and consistently best-selling electric guitars of all time.

Nowadays, you can get Tele-style guitars from a range of different guitar brands โ€“ from Charvel to Squier and, in the context of this article, Harley Benton.

You can pay anywhere from $5000 to less than $200 for a Tele guitar in todayโ€™s market but for those of you after an ultra-cheap but perfectly useable Tele in 2023 and beyond, Harley Benton is where you want to be looking.

The main benefit of going with a Harley Benton Telecaster over, say, one from Fender, Schecter, or Charvel is the cost โ€“ Harley Benton Telecasters are WAY cheaper with prices starting lower than $200 in most cases.

But what is the best Harley Benton Telecaster model you can buy right now? We tested A LOAD of them to find out; hereโ€™s our complete guide to the best Harley Benton Telecaster models for 2023.

Which Model is The Best?

Best Overall

After playing all of these teles for a considerable amount of time, switching between them, trying different tunings and amps, the one that we kept coming back to over and over again was the Harley Benton TE-70RW Deluxe Series.

Because it is a Deluxe Series model, it is slightly more expensive. But in Harley Bentonโ€™s world, expensive is still less than $200 โ€“ the Harley Benton TE-70RW Deluxe Series retails for $159 in the US and ยฃ149 in the UK and Europe.

Harley Benton TE-70 RW Deluxe Series

If you want a Telecaster that sounds as close as possible to a classic Fender Telecaster, the Harley Benton TE-70RW Deluxe Series is the one to go for. And the reason, for me, at least, is threefold:

  1. The Roswell TEA Alnico-5 vintage TE-style single coils are brilliant, possessing a level of tonal quality and crispness that is unbelievable for a guitar that costs this little.
  2. The build quality and machining on all of its parts is incredible, way better than anything Iโ€™ve seen from Squier in the past 18-24 months. The neck is smooth, thereโ€™s no fret over-hang, and the action was pitch perfect right out the box.
  3. It uses a string-through design, so the sustain on the Harley Benton TE-70RW Deluxe Series is incredible. Sonically, the guitar itself is brilliant regardless of what youโ€™re doing. Whether youโ€™re running it through pedals and an amp or a digital effects program like STL AmpHub or BIAS FX 2, it just sounds way better than its price tag.

Best For Beginners & The Tele Curious?

If youโ€™re a beginner guitarist, or you just really fancy trying out a telecaster-style guitar, go with the Harley Benton TE-52 Vintage Series. Itโ€™s ridiculously cheap ($150/ยฃ149) and it plays and sounds like a $500 guitar. Honestly, it is almost as good as my Fender Player Telecaster โ€“ and that cost me almost $800!

Harley Benton TE-30 BE Standard Series

The pickups are legit, again, you have two single coil pickups, it holds its tune nicely, and the fretboard and neck are beautifully finished and integrated into the body. Itโ€™s fast, easy to play, and, best of all, it sounds like a proper vintage Tele with plenty of twang and warmth.
