Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Colors: What’re Your Options?

Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Colors

The Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is one of the best modern electric guitars on the market right now – especially for metal. But what colors is the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy available in?

Between 2020 and 2022, there were a lot of guitars released. Plenty of them were very impressive. But one of our favorite guitars from the past few years is easily the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy. If you want a Les Paul but cannot afford a Gibson, the Prophecy is easily the best option on the market right now.

The Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is lighter than traditional Les Paul-style guitars, it runs Fishman Fluence pickups which are designed specifically for modern metal tones, and it plays beautifully thanks to its premium build materials and fast neck. The guitar is a monster in nearly every aspect.

Launched in 2020, the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is available in the following colors:

  • Olive Tiger Aged Gloss
  • Red Tiger Aged Gloss
  • Black Aged Gloss

If you’re looking for a modern, sleek finish on your Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy, you’ll want to go with the Black Aged Gloss finish. It looks utterly badass. And, because it is black, it is more uniform-looking, and it makes less of a statement. But it looks smart as heck. Black is also METAL AF, of course.

My personal favorite Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy color, however, is the Olive Tiger Aged Gloss. It reminds me of Adam Jones’ custom Gibson Les Paul, just with a slightly different hue used on the finish. Jones’ is silver. But this one is more yellow-based, although Epiphone describes it as olive.

The proprietary Fishman Fluence pickups deliver tones that modern guitarists love, all of which are extremely usable. The ability to change from modern punch or warm vintage Gibson humbucker tone to the glassy shimmer of a single-coil at your fingertips gives players the versatility to capture the widest array of sounds. Married to modern Inspired by Gibson body styles, it is a force to be reckoned with.

Inspired By Gibson – Yes, But It’s Totally Different As Well

The Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is, of course, “inspired by Gibson” but the guitar itself is a completely different beast when compared to Gibson’s Standard and Custom Les Paul guitars. If you’re focused on playing metal, these guitars could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

They’re also considerably cheaper than a Gibson Les Paul. But the difference in price isn’t the only significant difference. The quality, as ever with Epiphone, is very much on point. Epiphone has improved its quality control DRAMATICALLY in the last several years. In my humble experience, there really isn’t much to separate guitars like the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy from their more expensive Gibson counterparts these days.

Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Specs & Features

  • Mahogany body with AAA flame maple veneer top
  • Mahogany neck with asymmetrical SlimTaper profile, ebony fretboard
  • Dual Fishman Fluence humbuckers, 3 voicing options including coil tap and coil-split
  • LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, Grover locking Rotomatic tuners

In fact, in some instances, the Epiphone might even be preferable to a Gibson model. Thanks to things like modern weight-relief techniques, the inclusion of modern Fishman Fluence pickups, and new color options, the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy could not be more different – in a good way – from Gibson’s traditional Les Paul models.

For the modern player, the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is perhaps one of the most compelling “new style” Les Paul options on the market right now. Like Mat Heafy’s epic signature Epiphone Les Paul model, the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy has enough nuance and unique attributes to make it something all players should consider buying – even if they CAN afford a proper Gibson Les Paul.

We’re HUGE fans of the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy, so much so that we constantly recommend it in our Best Guitar guides. If you’re in the market for a new guitar and you predominately play metal music, the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy is well worth a look – especially if your budget is in and around $800-$900.
