If you’re attempting to record music at home – or in a studio – with Cubase 13, you’re going to need a pretty decent computer. There’s just no getting around this fact. 

Me? I have a Mac Studio and it runs Cubase 13 like a dream. But this was always going to be the case: it is an utter monster. Hell, the fans don’t even spin-up when I’m doing really intensive stuff. 

While you can – and in most cases will – get away with 8GB of RAM and a middling CPU, for best results you’ll want to invest in a higher spec machine. Minimum 16GB of RAM and either a Intel Core i5 (4th Gen) or AMD Ryzen CPU with at least four cores. 

Or, get a Mac – they’re great for Cubase and the performance on Apple’s newer Apple Silicon-powered machines is staggering. 

It sucks. I know. But when you’re recording digitally, these are the kind of expenses you have just got to eat. No one likes it but them’s the breaks, sadly.

My advice? Get something custom built if you’re going to PC route or a MacBook Pro if you wanna use macOS – even a refurbished model is fine (prices start from around $600/$700).
