What You Need To Know
Fender clearly listens to the players and knows the current market.
The Fender Stratocaster is still a staple of almost every type of music that involves guitars.
While the Strat has always had a mid-priced series it has NEVER offered this many features in this price bracket.
The Player II Series is already starting to show up on stages and studios all over the world and the Stratocaster is having a bit of a renaissance period with up-and-coming players.
The Player II Stratocaster makes for a great first “real” guitar for intermediate players ready to take to the stage.
Upholding Fender’s reputation for solid craftsmanship, the Player II Series introduces improvements like rolled fingerboard edges and ClassicGear tuners.
These enhancements not only boost functionality but also add to the guitar’s visual appeal.
While the overall construction is reliable, a few minor quality control issues have been found on some models, such as occasional glue residue on the nut.
However, these are rare and don’t significantly impact the instrument’s performance.
The guitar comes in several attractive finishes, including options with rosewood fingerboards.
These aesthetic choices enhance its appeal without deviating from the classic Stratocaster look that players love.
While there are other brands to consider—such as Yamaha’s Pacifica series—for those seeking an authentic Fender experience at this price point, the Player II Stratocaster is hard to beat.
Although American-made models might offer slight advantages in specific areas, the Player II provides ample quality and performance for most players without necessitating a substantially larger investment.
It’s the perfect guitar for a player that needs versatile tones built into a familiar design.

Every guitar is unique. Finding the right one for you requires that you know what you want. Here’s how this one stacks up…
The Fender Player Series II is designed for working musicians, home studio players, and intermediate players of all genres. While technically the “cheapest” option with the Fender name on the headstock, make no mistake, this is a professional guitar. Players ready to ditch their beginner-level gear will enjoy the new Player Series.
While Fender has made vast improvements over the older MIM Standard Series, the newer Player Series II is still in the “middle of the road” price point.
These guitars will need a good setup right out of the box since this is a corner that is cut to keep the price down.
However, Stratocasters are known for being easy to setup and maintain. It also uses standard parts that can be found anywhere, making upgrades easy later on.

Featuring Alnico 5 single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions and an Alnico II humbucker at the bridge, the Player II Stratocaster delivers a diverse palette of tones.
This setup offers versatility suited to genres ranging from blues to rock.
While some may find the humbucker doesn’t have the classic Stratocaster bite, this can often be tweaked with amp settings or EQ pedals to achieve the desired sound.
The tone controls are notably responsive, encouraging players to experiment and shape their sound effectively.
This responsiveness is especially appreciated on the bridge pickup, allowing for greater creativity and tonal exploration.
The hand-wired CTS pots are hooked up to redesigned HSS and SSS pickup configurations which are medium-output, Alnico V variants.
All of this equals features never seen at this price point.
The Alnico magnets react well to gain and overdrive while retaining the Strat tones we all know and love.
The single coils have that classic, glassy tone with bell-like overtones that we could identify even with a blindfold.
The humbuckers offer a little more bite and drive for players that want to experiment with high gain, while still retaining string-separation clarity.

Pickups determine a guitar’s tone, with cheap ones often sounding dull or noisy, while expensive pickups deliver clearer, richer sound quality.
Fender added rolled edges to the Player II Series and while it is not as drastic as the USA models, you can tell when you play with a thumb-over style (like Hendrix or Mayer).
The two-point tremolo system feels so much better than the traditional “six screw” style. This allows players to use the trem system without it feeling “sticky” or stiff.
The satin finish on the back of the neck makes playing quick runs easy and smooth, with the C-shaped neck remaining unchanged over the years.
Expensive guitars typically offer superior build quality, better hardware, smoother playability, and richer tones, while cheap guitars often compromise on materials, craftsmanship, and overall feel, resulting in less refined sound and playing experience.
